Upper Materials

The upper of a soccer cleat actually makes contact with the ball. Different types of synthetic and leather materials are used, each offering different qualities players look for in their cleats. The leather upper is soft and flexible, molding to the foot allowing for a better feel for the ball. Leather offers strength and durability but is not the best choice for wet conditions. Synthetic uppers hold up well in wet conditions and poor weather conditions. They offer lighter weight and breathable construction and do not take as much time to break in as leather cleats.
