A lineup of Nike legends, classic and new, stood with Kyrie on that December night in New York in 2014. His Cleveland teammates LeBron James and Tristan Thompson joined legends Charles Barkley and Penny Hardaway as they welcomed Kyrie into their ranks as Nike signature athletes.
Chapter 1
Unlike many of his peers, Kyrie’s story begins in Australia, where he was born. That’s just one of the elements reflected on his debut shoe, the Nike Kyrie 1. It includes details that tell us about Kyrie as a person, including a sharktooth pattern on the lateral (outer) edge of the midsole that resembles the Sydney Opera House of the country where he lived for his first two years.
It also incorporated features that helped him excel on the court. A low-profile Zoom Air unit in the forefoot helped him stay responsive through even the quickest cuts. The Hyperfuse upper is designed to be tough, flexible, and breathable. And a 360-degree traction pattern on the outsole assured Kyrie could slash in any direction at any time.
Present and future
The most recent edition, the Nike Kyrie 6, includes a similar design philosophy of containing Kyrie’s foot while providing a launch pad for his explosive moves. You’ll find that support in the wrap up the lateral edge of the midsole to help contain your foot on a hard lateral slash. You’ll also find it in the midfoot strap that helps lock the foot down to the foot bed.
Kids can complete that look with a variety of Kyrie-themed clothing including T-shirts and even pants. And Nike has short- and long-sleeve tees, as well as hoodies, jackets, and fleece pants in a variety of colors that are sure to complement any kid’s Kyrie collection.
