The Year was 1997

Will Smith was gettin’ jiggy with it, Mulder and Scully were TV’s most shipped couple, and the Titanic sunk (again. And again. And again….) Over in the sneaker world, Nike dropped what would go on to become one of the most beloved silhouettes of all time: The Air Max 97.

Defiantly Futuristic

Featuring a heel-to-toe continuous visible Air unit, the kick was considered a masterpiece for both its technical aspects and stylish look. The 97 was created by Christian Tresser, (the designer behind many of the Swoosh’s most memorable running shoes of the late ’90s) and is revered for its eye-catching wavy design (inspired by lines caused by a drop of rain on a puddle), reflective accents, and that large Air bubble. For colorways, Tresser turned to his other passion – mountain bikes. Titanium metal frames with a silver aluminum finish were key in inspiring the silver mesh on the shoe. Its most recognizable colorway is still the original ‘Metallic Silver,’ featuring silver synthetic leather and mesh for the multi-paneled design.

A Master of Air

The Air Max 97 is known as one of the most stylish Air Max runners ever, and for good reason. The sleek, sporty design never goes out of style, whether you’re talking about its original metallic silver and gold colorways or the latest color-and-material concept cooked up by today’s Nike Sportswear designers. A model that no sneaker collection should ever be without, the Air Max 97 is a culture and fashion icon.

Features to the Max

Heel-and-tongue pull tabs for easy on/off, an innovative hidden lacing system (a first!), and full-length Air system are features kids need for all-day comfort. The Air Max 97 is a must for a budding sneakerhead’s collection!
